The internationally renowned percussionist Murat Coşkun was awarded the 1998 SWR World Music Prize and the 2004 ZMF Prize.
Based on his ethnomusicology and oriental studies he acts as a mediator between the musical worlds of orient and occident; he draws from the rich musical repertoire of various cultures and has committed himself to many different styles such as world music, classical music, early music, new music and jazz.
Consequently, Murat Coşkun is always very busy, whether as a lecturer for oriental percussion and frame drums, as a much sought-after studio and live musician or as a composer for numerous CDs, DVDs, theater, TV and radio productions.
He was the first author and teacher to produce an instructional DVD about frame drum playing – “Finger Dance”; as a Schlagwerk endorser he participates in the development of new instruments and frame drums. Murat Coşkun is the founder and artistic director of the most important international frame drum festival Tamburi Mundi ® in Freiburg (Germany). In addition, he is also in charge of Tamburi Mundi festivals in Iran (Isfahan), Italy (Umbria) and Turkey (Cappadocia).
Percussionist
Very good percussion instruments, high quality; nostalgia factor: I already performed on these instruments at concerts when I was only 15 years old. The Schlagwerk Frame Drum has accompanied me to different countries - Mongolia (Gobi Desert), Morocco, Corea, Iran – and on the most varied occasions – a solo performance for Giora Feidman, an award winners´ concert and the like.
I have opted for Schlagwerk because I am truly convinced of the quality, and I think that this company and its mission statement are highly praiseworthy.
