Antonello Giorgi

Antonello has always been a percussionist: ever since the days when he beat his mother's washing powder boxes ... with wooden spoons. Later he asked for a drum kit at Christmastime. Unfortunately it was too expensive, but he did get a Charleston drum and a snare ... which was a dream come true!
He started the band Teobaldi Rock with his friend Luca Carboni and other musical friends from his neighbourhood. The band was part of the underground movement in Bologna, which was spreading at that time through the cellars of Bologna filling them with an incredible creative energy. Just think of the mythical band Skiantos.
After taking the first steps alone, he felt the need to study music formally, to learn to read music and to start practising the rudiments of his art. Studying with two very talented private tutors allowed him to express his funk and rock soul to the fullest extent. Later, he continued to deepen his knowledge of his instrument on his own by studying the performances of the best drummers from overseas.
He has been playing percussion for some years now, which he perceives as fundamental to complete his knowledge of his cultural background and experience. “Percussion is the most sublime part of rhythm ... every instrument has its own history, an important history!”

Bands/Projects

I play drums with Luca Carboni (www.lucacarboni.it), who's very famous in Germany for his song titled "Mare Mare". We are now working on a new studio album. I toured Germany with Luca Carboni in 1996, 2000 and 2002 with Karsten Jahnke production.

How to mic

This is a very important subject for me, as the ideal way of miking my setup is still a work in progress. For the time being I use a Shure Beta 57 for the batter side of the cajon, and a regular bassdrum microphone for the rear side, like AKG or Sennheiser. But I'm not 100% satisfied yet... I'm going to try the new Schlagwerk CMIC 90!
