In his youth, the autodidact Thomas Keemss played in numerous rock, pop and jazz bands and received intensive private tuition. Later on, he finished his timpani and drumset studies at the University of Music Würzburg with a bachelor´s degree in music (performance and instrumental pedagogy).
As of 1983, he dedicated himself to his soloist studies with Siegfried Fink, which he successfully completed with a Meisterklassen Diploma in 1985.
Since 1981 he has been teaching as a professor of percussion, rhythm pedagogy and improvisation at the music therapy department of the SRH University Heidelberg but has also held lectureships at the University of Music Saarbrücken, the University of Music Hamburg and the University of Education Heidelberg.
As a true master of his craft, he is a very much sought-after lecturer and disseminator when it comes to workshops and other events on the topic of “rhythm and drums”.
