I think of excellent build quality and superb tone. Other Cajons I tried before my Schlagwerk Cajon just didn't have the same range of tones, they were either too toppy or the snare tones were not crisp and snappy at all. Also the range of tones you can get from a Schlagwerk Cajon is far superior to that of other makes.
Cajon - I own a 2inOne CP404 large and a CP432 deluxe Makassar
Currently blues, soul, funk and pop music - and everything that pays well
As well as performing my own material I also gig with Dan Crisp (www.dancrispmusic.com) and Nicky Swann (www.nickyswann.com)
I find the best method is to have an AKG D112 just inside the sound hole at the back, then a Shure SM57 approx. 10" away from the back of the cajon. The AKG D112 provides bass for the kick tones but with the added Shure SM57 it gives the kick sound clarity and added punch. Then I add a AKG C1000 to the side, this brings out the snare tones and also adds warmth to the overall sound.
