He studied at the Escuela Libre de Musica in Ponce and at Puerto Rico Music Conservatory where he obtained his bachelor´s degree in music, majoring in percussion. He was a member of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra at first and, later on, a soloist percussionist and guest musician of the Casals Festival Orchestra, Arturo Somohano's Philarmonic Orchestra and the Dominican Republic's Symphony Orchestra among others. His musical experience has trascended to other countries such as Cuba, Brazil and Europe. In Germany he had the opportunity of founding two schools of percussion: the well-known International Percussion School and Freddie Santiago Percussion Academ. Furthermore, he was a professor at Mannheim Conservatory. He has also traveled to Denmark, Sweden, Turkey, England and North and South America. Self-educated in the rhythms and instruments of ethnic percussion, he has participated in master classes, concerts and recordings of Christian church services and has performed together with local and international artists and musicians. Currently, he is a professor of classical, marching, popular, jazz and ethnic percussion at the Inter American University in San Germán, Puerto Rico, where he also directs Latin-jazz bands and percussion groups on special occasions. Even though he has reached great renown and has paved the way for future generations, his greatest satisfaction is being a useful tool in the hands of God.
