Born in Bregenz in Austria, Claudio Spieler chose to take up the path to becoming a professional musician at the age of 17. He studied classical drumset at the Landeskonservatorium Feldkirch in Austria and received his concert diploma with honours.
Since 2004, he has been one of Schlagwerk endorser´s Hakim Ludin´s master students and has intensively been exploring Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian and Indian music. Claudio Spieler´s musical versatility can be witnessed on the occasion of one of his performances together with stilistically varying ensembles throughout Europe or when listening to the numerous successful CD productions he has been part of.
As a special guest, Claudio Spieler can also be seen and heard on Hakim Ludin´s instructional DVD “modern percussionist vol.6 – groove basics on cajón”. As a teacher for percussion and drumset, Claudio Spieler imparts his knowledge to students at the drum academy Drummercircle Karlsruhe, and, since April 2007, also at Clara Schumann Musikschule in Baden-Baden.
Percussionist and drummer
Witnessing Hakim Ludin´s “One World Percussion” solo concert for the very first time in 1999 induced me to buy a Schlagwerk Frame Drum. The vibrant sound and the aesthetic appeal of Schlagwerk instruments have fascinated and inspired me ever since. Schlagwerk Frame Drums – especially Pandariq and Free Hand Drum – and 2inOne Cajons play an extraordinarily important part in our “Percussion Discussion” duo performances.
