Tuned Percussion

Schlagwerk Percussion’s philosophy includes the constant endeavour to perfect traditional sound-effect and rhythm instruments with professional sound and practical handling. The Log Drums are an especially significant part of the company’s history, as they represent the first instrument group manufactured by Schlagwerk. Even after 25 years, they are very convincing instruments because of their design and warm sound, which has given many people a beautiful introduction to music. During this time, our range of tuned instruments and sounds has evolved from wind chimes, balaphones, and marimbula to numerous blocks, shakers and other hand percussion instruments.

Big Bom®

The Big Bom® is the noble giant among the log drums, and not just because of its size. Its voluminous sound and high quality manufacture are very convincing. It also exudes intense warmth with its “hand-friendly” wooden body. The pentatonic tone gives this instrument a harmonious multi-tonal spectrum, ranging from deep, rich basses to bright altos. The Big Bom® is the ideal instrument for communication: big enough to allow two players to sit side by side, they can enter into a creative musical dialogue. The Big Bom® is a highly sought-after and valuable instrument in the field of therapeutics, e.g. as a producer of heart beat tones which can be felt in their entirety (basal stimulation), or as the key to dialogue awareness and communication advancement (psychomotor dialogue).

Wind Chimes

Wind Chimes can set body and senses in motion while having a positive influence on our well-being. Our Wind Chimes come in three different prevailing moods. Based on a tonic keynote, they are tuned in pentatonic sequences which give each one its own individual sound character. Most of the moods are based on planetary tones and have been set in audible frequencies by transposing an octave above or below. The oscillatory nature in the higher tonal ranges and the harmonious tonal images are the distinguishing features of these wind chimes. Each one of the wind chimes has been tuned to a pure interval with high-precision measuring instruments.

Traveller-Didge

The Traveller Didge is an innovative new design on the Didgeridoo market: it‘s easy to handle, compact and well designed. MA 840 Marimbula

The Marimbula is the original Caribbean Bass. The eight metal tongues are fastened in such a manner that they can be individually tuned to a scale
from D - g. The instruments are tuned to an F-major pentatonic scale. It can be played by hand or with mallets. Using mallets yields clear, fresh high tones.

These new Table Tubes TRS 210 offer a great variety of sounds. The position of the hanging tubes within the vibration-friendly frame is freely adjustable. This allows tones with a short sustain, but can also produce an almost endless swinging magical sound. Two additional tubes (in “e”) expand the possibility of creative playing to the C-Penta scale.

“Balaphone” means “talking wood” in the language of the Mandingos. The Schlagwerk Balaphone combines the rich, colourful sounds of native West African instruments with European production standards and standardised tuning. 12 sound bars made of Padouk wood are fastened to the resonance body by rubber bands, making it impossible for any of the bars to drop out, even under pressure from the most heavy-handed player.
