Playing surface: Zebra design veneer Resonance box: 8 layers of birch, approx. 30 x 30 x 50 cm Agile string technology (pat. pend.)
Schlagwerk’s Zebra model offers an exciting Cajon with the new flexibly adjustable Agile string technology. This instrument sets new standards in terms of sensitivity and sound control. It provides a quick and clean attack for the high notes combined with the wellknown rich Schlagwerk bass.
Agilis is a Latin word meaning “easily moved”. The word “agile” has developed from this in many languages as a synonym for energy, ease and liveliness. A fitting name for Schlagwerk’s new Cajon series. The technical core is formed by a removable element for creating an exceptionally fast and precisely responsive snare sound. This sensitive attack is produced in the base & dual models using a snare unit. In the pro models a flexible damping system combined with adjustable string tension ensures a very agile attack.
Playing surface: Cappuccino design veneer Resonance box: 8 layers of birch, approx. 30 x 30 x 50 cm Agile string technology (pat. pend.)
The crowning glory of this beautiful Cappuccino playing surface is hidden inside. Thanks to the Agile string technology this pro model creates a very balanced and soft overall sound with an extremely sensitive attack from the Cajon strings.

Playing surface: 2 x Gabon Resonance box: 8 layers of birch, approx. 30 x 30 x 50 cm Agile snare technology
Based on the design of a Cajon with two playing surfaces, the Agile dual provides two sounds in one instrument. The first side features precise snare sounds combined with a warm and open bass. The second playing surface typifies the dry Cuban sound character. For varied sound production the snare technology can be exchanged between the playing surfaces.

Cologne-based percussionist Andrés participated in the Schlagwerk Award Contest sending in a video of his band Mario Nyéky & The Road.
Their convincing performance instantly impressed us. The four musicians describe their music as “road music”, with Andrés providing the groove on his bass cajon.
On his video, Budapest-born musician and graphic designer Máté Jakab shows us emotive Latin funk grooves combined with beautiful pictures in black and white.
Marcel prefers it loud, hard and fast – and really lets it rip when performing on the cajon.
He produced this video together with his band mates, displaying a great sense of humor and terrific ideas. You should watch this video from first to last: It´s worth your time!
This week, we would like to introduce the musician and sound engineer Tom from South Africa to you.
His video clip – a relaxed studio session with songwriter Mike Muya – got full points from the Schlagwerk team. Excellent sound, cool grooves and an awesome song for chilling out.
"Cajon Kids" is the name of the exemplary project initiated by Marc from Luneburg in Northern Germany.
Performing with utmost concentration while showing an intense joy of playing, the Cajon Kids prove on this video that little ones can do big things. Marc teaches his Cajon Kids in his own music workshop, he regularly performs in front of an audience together with the young talents and prepares them for the real big stages. Thumbs up from the Schlagwerk team!
The Winter NAMM 2013 opens its doors in Anaheim / Los Angeles from 24 to 27 January.
Schlagwerk is exhibiting at this important international show in collaboration with the German Pavilion.
For Europe’s leading cajon manufacturer, extending its exhibition activities to include the Winter NAMM in the USA is a logical step in view of the great international demand for high-quality percussion instruments.
The focus of the instruments to be presented will be on the cajons and the cajon add-ons which are becoming increasingly popular in the United States.
Abi Wallenstein and Schlagwerk Endorser Martin Röttger will be representing the Baltic Blues e. V. at the 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
Abi is called the "living legend" of the European blues scene. Throughout forty years on stage Abi developed a characteristic guitar style which combines rhythmic blues lines with chords and melody lines. There is a swinging groove, which makes you forget about normal rhythm sections.
Martin is one of the European pioneers of the cajon. His minimalistic equipment, his driving beats and infectious enthusiasm play a vital role in propelling Abi’s gripping and eminently Traditional & Memphis Blues. Their unique combination of energy, virtuosity and conviction has since made them one of the exciting acts of performing in Europe today.
This year we hope to spread Christmas cheer by donating to Medecins Sans Frontières.

The full-blooded musician Shawn Kok comes from Singapore, where he runs his own cajon school. He truly loves playing the cajon; and it is exactly this passion which he communicates with the greatest of ease when performing on his instrument. His video has scored extremely well with our team - and that´s why we are presenting it as our Award Video Tip of the Week!
On his video, Buenos Aires-based percussionist Gerardo Solnie presents himself in a most impressive way, perfectly exemplifying the versatility of the cajon and the fact that this instrument is able to transcend any musical borders.
Passion and musical enthusiasm – that´s what the German percussion group BoxBeat from the city of Göppingen stands for, and it is also what Jonas and his fellow drummers convey par excellence on this video clip. We have immediately been captivated by this group´s performance and, therefore, BoxBeat is our Award Video Tip of the Week!
Matteo is the drummer and cajon player of the Italian trio LUX. The innovative video clip to the song Destabilizza, published on the band´s latest album Menomale, has won the entire Schlagwerk team over right away!

Murat Coşkun’s soloist studio debut is an expression of his musical experience, rich in facets and a superb mastery of his percussion equipment. The frame drums take of course first position here, practically at home in many various cultures – from Asia to the Orient, North-Africa and Europe as well as in South-America.
Frame drums are frontier crossers – as much as is the musician himself. Murat Coşkun is stimulated by these various traditions, and after many years of intensive working with them, they are embedded in his very own music. Rhythms and sounds are merging, turning into sound expansions which are at times quite dense, and then again airy and interchangeable. Fantasy images are created by the music, the winds of Anatolia’s soft hill landscapes become audible, twittering birds are dancing in the sky and the inner eye perceives galloping wild horses while soft raindrops are falling on colourful spring flowers.
Murat Coşkun combines the rhythm language with his drums and manifold percussion instruments: Focal point is at all times the dialog. Two ideal guests and dialog partners are surprising on Coşkun’s solo CD. There is for one, Giora Feidman, the master of Klezmer music with whom Murat Coşkun enjoys a long standing and intensive “stagefriendship”, and with whom he has recorded numerous CDs. And there is as the second one, the tuba virtuoso, Michel Godard of France whose musical style ranges from ancient and world music to jazz - a congenial musical partner therefore.
Intensive dialogs are created between musicians and friends – sometimes deeply profound, quiet and meditative and sometimes gripping and powerfully dancing. Murat Coşkun with his frame drums creates a dimensional music in which his central Anatolian soul is united with the West-European spirit while connecting it to elements of various cultures into a new, world music sounding body.
Pere Olivé Aymerich is the 2012 winner of the first-ever frame drum award to be presented at the Tamburi Mundi Festival. The Catalan musician who hails from Barcelona impressed with both his solo performance and an ensemble piece performed with the Kaiserstuhl Percussion Ensemble.

Percussion Discussion live in Provence (South France) with Hakim Ludin Signature Framedrums - Schlagwerk Pandariq, Majid Kaskaritas and the natural sound of the chirping "Cigales".
What do Tom Waits, Aphex Twin, Tinariwen and Portishead have in common?
Every one of them is an elementary inspiration for Georg Edlinger's Rhythm Blasters at Work - “Windfire”.
The new CD is a perfect mix of electicism and authenticity. A new form of sophisticated mainstream. It is a statement from a versatile and great artist. This music grooves, swings and creates images full of atmosphere and overwhelming plasticity. It is the perfect tune to get out of bed in the morning or to just chill out.
The Album describes a fantastic journey of a so called “Sailor” through the real world.
With somnabulistic security Georg Edlinger holds the steering wheel in one hand while the sticks explode through pure energy in the other. The “sailor” travels from “African Steps”, “Fall Light”, “Turning Motion” to “Space Fly” before he regains solid floor under his dancing feet with “Sky Trip”.
After this rhythmic, vibrating and melodic trip the imaginative thoughts move to “Crashdown” and “Returning Move”. After that they rotate to “Eastside”, to end in a fulminant “Windfire”, which the CD is named after.
Georg Edlinger also got the brilliant producers Harry Jen, Errol Dix and A. Eicher on board. In almost two years they created a clubready Independence Album with Edlinger's own compositions an lyrics. Universal Rhythm Blasters at Work - “Windfire” also features the artists Louis Sanou, Dog G., Nwanma, T. Pichler and V. Kaegerer. After several CD releases Georg Edlinger sails as an author, lecturer, musician, endorser, drummer and percussionist in various formations into the “Windfire”. With this he presents a Pop Album that is ready for the radio and wanders along stylistic borders. Ahoy!

Marcel van Cleef. Rising star. Solid performance. Raw emotion. The story of an extraordinary dutch drummer on the road to success. It has taken over 2000 performances with rock groups, big bands, jazz trios, cooperations with well known musicians from America, Africa and Europe, loads of demos and clinics, CDs, DVDs, now Marcel van Cleef delivers with his new CD „Traffic Jam“ a work which is indusputably original and inspiring.
Van Cleef reaches an absolute milestone in his musical career. He redefines the broad spectrum possibilities of the usage of percussion and through his well developed way of playing, he reaches an unprecedented height. Traffic Jam is a splendid solo project. A just as fascinating as overwhelming musical product. Marcel van Cleef is an extraordinary appearance in the world of music. At two years of age he picks up his first drumsticks: it was the beginning of an amazing musical career. At the age of 12 he made his appearance into the local music scene. Long before graduation from the Conservatory, he shared the stage with internationally acclaimed artists. He finds himself in great need to add harmonics on top of the rhythmic component, so he is constantly in search of new sounds, roaming the world, to integrate harmonic structures in his rhythmical work. He combines percussion and pulsatile instruments: the result is the creation of an unprecedented versatility of sounds which at the same time enables him to sound like a four headed band while playing solo. Using 8 foot pedals, which themselves trigger 2 bass-drums, 2 djembés, a woodblock and 2 hi-hats, he creates the base rhythm fundament of fine drum sounds. His arms handle tom-toms, djembés, congas, cymbals, udu, cajón, tambora and hangs. Combining these elements he delivers a set of raw and refined emotions and rattling fireworks. On the top of it all sound his comforting vocals. Van Cleef excels in making extremely complex arrangements sound open, fresh, and at times surprisingly simple. He adds an irresistible sense of humor to it. It is almost beyond comprehension that the compositions on Traffic Jam are written and produces by just one man, the same man that performs solo live on stage. It is melodically sublime and rhythmically virtuos. Marcel van Cleef redefines the art of playing drums. Van Cleef spatters energy and peaking musicality. His performances are impressive and touching; an ultimate challenge, a musical pinnacle and a tremendous source of inspiration to everyone who hears or sees him. Traffic Jam is a splendid solo project and a fascinating show: Brilliant!
Sting and Rhani Krija: What started as a studio project turned into both a friendship and a long-standing musical collaboration which is still in effect today.
Whether as front man of his band The Police, or since 1985 as solo artist, Sting has always enjoyed, and indeed been successful in, combining musical styles such as jazz, classical, folk and country– and in doing so, has created his own unique style.
The British artist, who, amongst other things, has also enjoyed success as an actor, is well-respected on the international music scene.
Everything he touches turns to gold, as did his collaboration with Schlagwerk endorser Rhani Krija in 2003. What started as a studio project turned into both a friendship and a long-standing musical collaboration which is still in effect today.
Sting is currently on a major world tour with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra presenting his new album "Symphonicities".
Rhani Krija is also involved, as are numerous Schlagwerk instruments. His current set-up is based on a Cajon Fineline comfort "Mocca", Cajinto and Bass Cajinto, as well as numerous cajon add-ons. Also featured, as ever, are the Skin Udu and various frame drums.

Confluence, the new collaboration between Akram Khan and Nitin Sawhney, makes a welcome return to Sadler's Wells following its sell-out run at their Svapnagata India Festival in Autumn 2009.
The highly acclaimed Confluence fuses Sawhney's music with Khan's unique blend of classical kathak and contemporary technique. Exploring how the independent stories of these two kindred spirits converged, Confluence offers the opportunity to re-visit their collaborative work together (Kaash, zero degrees and bahok) but it is more than simply a retrospective of their previous pieces. It is an exploration of the nature and fabric of creativity itself.
"These are performers at the zenith of their powers, truly original creators of dance and sounds that mix all kinds of influences…The result is work so powerful and idiosyncratic that it sweeps you away" DAILY TELEGRAPH
"It’s the small details rather than the big concepts that make it magic" THE GUARDIAN
The 1st European Blues & Roots Masterclass took place with Steve Baker, Dick Bird and Martin Roettger in Le Kleebach in summer 2009. A total of 30 students attended and spent five days and nights celebrating the joy of hand-made music in a perfect location. The beautiful surroundings, excellent accomodation, delicious food and affordable prices in conjunction with exceptionally musician-friendly conditions offered an ideal setting for the event and led to numerous requests for a sequel in 2010, with which we were happy to comply.
Hand-made music is something which never goes out of style and this year’s event offers amateur musicians of all ages and levels of ability four full days of of intensive study with three of today’s leading exponents of this genre. Steve Baker, Dave Goodman and Martin Röttger have been performing professionally for decades and all have extensive teaching experience. The courses combine practical and theoretical instruction with ample opportunity for sessions in the evenings. The event will culminate in a full evening concert featuring all three instructors on Saturday, August 7th.
Martin Röttger & Sanna Hallmann - Cajon: The original Beatbox!
Martin Röttger During the past five years Martin Röttger has made a significant contribution to the rapidly growing popularity of the cajon on the European music scene, taking it into new places and moving outside the traditional area of flamenco. Originally a drummer, his cajon playing is characterized by grooving rhythms and infectious energy and has inspired numerous others to take up the instrument. In the late 1990s he founded the drum and cajon school “Drummatic” in Hamburg and has since taught at various other musical education institutes including the renowned Dante Augustin School in Switzerland. Today he is very active as a workshop instructor, presenting the first ever cajon courses at the Schorndorf Guitar Days and the Mediterranean Music School and has written several instructional books as well as working as a studio musician and performing live all over Europe. He cooperates closely with leading cajon manufacturer Schlagwerk and is also an endorsee for Sonor, Paiste and Beyerdynamic.
Sanne Hallmann This year’s cajon course will include a special optional feature on the first day: Under the guidance of Susanna Hallmann, an experienced and highly motivating instructor who has given cajon building classes in numerous music schools, students will have the opportunity to build their own cajon in only one day, before learning the instrument with Martin Röttger. For those who already own a cajon, Martin will offer a parallel workshop on the history of the instrument, different types of cajon and the possibilities of augmenting it with other percussion instruments.
Thereafter, the course will reflect the fact that the cajon has come to be regarded as an instrument in its own right and is now an essential part of the arsenal of any drummer or percussionist. Nowadays it is often used instead of a regular drum set and is ideal for small line-ups and club concerts. The modern cajon offers the player the possibility of adapting drum kit grooves to a quieter and more compact medium which reflects the realities of performance today.

Since its launch at the Frankfurt Music Fair, the Heck Stick has become one of the most successful percussion add-ons in the history of Schlagwerk Percusssion. Whether on its own, or combined with the Side Kick, word of the new Cajon "Hi-Hat" and its wide-ranging benefits has quickly spread. Thanks to its two height settings, the Cajon is now compatible with CP 403 (with a slightly lower seat height). What's more, the new height setting also allows a lower playing position with a Cajon of conventional seat height; allowing even more playing techniques to be used to great effect. Height adjustment is of course possible, regardless of whether the Heck Stick is positioned on the right or left-hand side.

Rhythm, visual effects, creativity, dancing, singing, activity and artists with incredible skills – that’s the language the new Mayumana show MOMENTUM is based on. Performed for the first time in Madrid in winter 2008, the newest show from the renowned Mayumana House in Tel Aviv is now on world tour. So far, Mayumana has thrilled more than 5 million audience members with its shows. And Momentum is getting ready to increase this group of fans. Among other things, lots of inspiring rhythmic elements to delight the audience have been added to the show. In order to do so, a whole range of Schlagwerk Cajons and percussion instruments are put to use.
Because so much movement and variety place high demands on the instruments, along with the sound, special value has been placed on the sturdiness and stage potential of the instruments. All together, 14x Cajons 2inOne (CP 404) and 2x Booster Boxxes are used on stage by the artists.
The cooperation between the Mayumana House and Schlagwerk Percussion in the selection of the right instruments is a great example for the show’s work across borders. Mayumana represents art with no boundaries, creative freedom and the love of life.
Schlagwerk Percussion would like to say thank you for the fabulous collaboration.
