Markus studied music at “Hoogeschool voor de Kunsten” in Arnheim / Netherlands (ArtEZ) and graduated as “Master of Music”.
Before and during his studies, Markus already performed together with internationally renowned musicians such as Kenny Wheeler, Rubin Eubanks, Christoph Spendel, Ack van Rooyen, Christian Howes, Gitte Haenning, and many more.
Within recent years, he has become one of the most sought-after touring drummers in Europe´s music industry with a very busy schedule and more than 350 gigs per year. His engagements have taken him to over 40 countries and to the most famous concert halls and venues in Europe: Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden, Köpi Arena in Oberhausen and Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg (Germany), Stadthalle in Vienna (Austria), Paradiso and Carré in Amsterdam (Netherlands), L´Olympia in Paris (France), National Theatre in Bern (Switzerland), Musicfestival in Ankara (Turkey), etc.
Apart from working together with such well-known show acts like Abbamania, Gitte Haenning or Rüdiger Hoffmann, Markus Berka has also participated as a drummer and percussionist in various big musical and theatre productions. He acted as principal drummer in the performances of “Sunset Boulevard” (Holland National Tour, Joop van den Ende feat. Pia Douwes, Simone Kleinsma, Antoni Kamerling), “Marilyn”(feat. Anna Montanaro) and “Tintenherz”, but also took the drum chair in the musical productions “Wicked” (Stage Entertainment – feat. Willemijn Verkaik), “Sweet Charity” and “Little Shop of Horrors”, which established his excellent reputation as a musical and show drummer.
Since March 2010, Markus has been the principal drummer at “Circus Roncalli”, the circus company he is currently touring Europe with.
