John Sparrow
Drummer of Violent Femmes
John Sparrow joined Violent Femmes in 2005 as a member of the Horns of Dilemma, playing Cajon. In 2016, he made his drumming debut with the band, playing a Weber Grill as part of his drum kit on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” And he still plays it to this day.
When not touring, John Sparrow has a passion for the education and longevity of his craft. For over twenty years, he’s specialized in teaching traditional drum technique, groove and feel, and history of the greats, with long-time private clients, masterclass weekends, and clinics. Side projects also include the Shakuhachi Club and Old Sam and the Teardrops, where John plays a mix of early blues, swing and hot jazz. Sparrow proudly endorses Slingerland Drums, Innovative Percussion, Remo Drumheads, & Schlagwerk Cajons.
